Seriously, there was a post about this a few weeks ago and I strongly encourage any women who have had these experiences to describe them because it's a real eye-opener for some people.

This is truly horrible and shouldn't be tolerated AT ALL!

The creep commenters who said that percentage of sexual assaults "was normal" sure balked when I suggested letting big, burly gay guys with bad attitudes into the military so the male troops could be raped with the same regularity as the women.

American soldiers who violently attack their fellow soldiers in time of war should be court-martialed, jailed, and much worse.

When you see the attitude of some of the posters, you understand why this is a problem and nothing is being done so far to stop this horrible crime of rape in the military. These women die in their sleep from dehydration rather than leave the safety of their bunks at night. One poster says that fighting and violence makes men sexually aroused, therefore women shouldn't be in the military.

A tragedy that we must address. Any many who rapes a woman should be castrated. Any man that can't get a woman without raping her isn't much of a man much less a human being. And don't try to give me the crap that she asked for it. NO woman asks to be raped.

I still think a trial and proof o guilt is still the right way, maybe that is because as I read your comment I was wondering how it would be make up to the Duke Lacrosse players if they had been punished in the manner you suggest, then as it turns out there never was a rape, just a rape case based on a false accusation. I know that is the exception to the rule, and a woman filing a rape charge should always be taken seriously, but one mistake here, just like a mistake in a death penalty case has an effect on an innocent person that can never really be made up to them. Now once someone is found guilty of a rape, then I think your methods of punishment are just fine. But I don't think it should ever be on the accused to have to prove their innocence, again, Duke Lacrosse players, it has to be the accusor, along with proscecutors, that prove teh accsed guilty.

sorry, was replying to a comment above and looking at a couple below at the same time about punishments.

If female soldiers cannot get protection against male soldiers, what chance do the civilians have?

The articles mentioned that probably a majority of the male soldiers are good people. However, good people who do not speak out and act against the bads can only be considered as accomplices.

If you want to really prevent rape, hang them in public or throw them for life.

I have a cure. How about these women show less mercy and go to the bathroom wearing the rapex condom and have two guns on them. I doubt a man would try anything on them then. But the sad part is, its only a few people who ruin it for almost everyone. An a**hole comes along and rapes a women, now all the guys have to be checked and watched. There are good men, but the bad ones are making it seem like all military men can't control themselves.

War and Rape have always gone hand in hand. They are two sides of the same coin. Militaries throughout history have attracted violence obsessed mentally ill people such as these predators. There's also US white supremacist gang graffiti showing up on buildings in iraq. The only way to stop these problems over there is to stop the war. Rapist US soldiers need to go to jail and be on our sex offender registries, they are a menace to society, and a scourge on our moral standing in the world (you know they rest of the world knows more about this that most US citizens do). And officers who do not seek the harshest punishments for them should be also jailed and put on the registries. In a culture of right wing zealotry, rapists always get protected unless it is politically expedient not to do so.

I don't disagree with you about rape, but to try to make it a right wing issus is far out of line, I could just as easily make a much more convincing case that the root of the problem is humanism, and the belief that there is no right or wrong, that morals are different for different societies, much more of a left wing mindset, and much more likely to lead to things like this. That was the reason for the negitive vote, while I believe in severe punishment for anyone convicted of a rape, trying to blame it on conservatism is just way off base.
